Lighthouse instructors each have a Masters or PhD degree in their field, and base their instruction and coaching on the following ten principles:

1. Competency is power: the person with the most competency (knowledge + skill) is most successful.
2. A change in mind and heart leads to lasting behavior change. Behavior change by itself is temporary.
3. The canyon between knowledge and success is bridged by action. People acquire new skills best when they can practice new knowledge immediately.
4. People skills trump technical skills. The very most successful people have both.
5. Train-then-promote instead of promote-then-train. People in a new position need a solid foundation of skills, before they start.
6. Crush the Peter Principle. Every individual and organization has unique internal limitations that hold them back. Those limitations can be removed or minimized by elevating competencies.
7. Adults love to learn. They learn best when the learning is autonomous, multi-sensual, utilizes their knowledge & life experiences, is goal-oriented, is relevant, highlights practicality, and encourages collaboration.
8. To get from here to there, we have to know where here is. Assessments give us understanding of where here is.
9. Customization conquers cookie cutter content. Understanding our clients needs enables us to deliver customized programs that are highly effective.
