Course description
In Corrosion-Resistant Fiberglass Rebar: Principles & Applications , you'll learn ...
- The basics of pultrusion, manufacturing process, and QC / QA
- Who is using GFRP rebar, where, and how?
- Acceptance, design guides, and history of GFRP projects
- Ways of optimizing structures based on GFRP and life cycle cost analysis
- Loading consideration differences between GFRP and steel
Overview
Reinforced concrete has as its main failure mechanism the corrosion and spalling of steel rebar. DOT's and engineers have for 40+ years attempted to remedy this concern, with varying success. In 2004, ACI published its first guide on GFRP (fiberglass) rebar for use in concrete structures. AASHTO and FHWA followed suit in 2009 with their own guideline.
This webinar presents an overview of GFRP (fiberglass) rebar, which is one of the growing alternatives in the bridge and transportation arenas today.
GFRP use is steadily growing, amidst other old (and some new) product options. Civil and structural engineers must be knowledgeable about GFRP use and design as many DOT's are now requiring that certain projects or regions incorporate products that will enable a 75 - 100 year service life.
