What is a Project?

The Project Management Institute (PMI), the leading not-for-profit professional membership association for project management, defines a project as, "a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service or result"

Project management is the practice of applying knowledge, tools, and skills in order to deliver successfully completed projects. Most experts define a successful project as one is finished on-time, within budget, and delivers on the expected outcome. However, the Standish Group's most recent CHAOS report found that a staggering 71% of projects failed to meet each of these criteria.

So how can you improve these odds in your company? A study by PMI found that organizations using any type of project management methodology are better at meeting budget, staying on schedule and meeting scope, quality standards and expected benefits.

With stat's like this, it's no wonder that project management training in a range of different methodologies and for attendees of all experience levels is so readily available.

Project Management Certification Training

Here at findcourses.com, one of the certification areas we hear the most about is project management certification. The reason behind this is pretty clear when you consider studies like a recent one from Wrike showing that, 80% of “high-performing” projects are led by a certified project manager

Read on as we go through some of the most popular areas of project management we have listed on the site and the most common certifications associated with each.

Agile Project Management (APM) Training Courses

According to CIO, 71% of organizations are now using agile approaches for their projects sometimes or more frequently. It's no wonder, as other studies are showing agile project management to be quite successful.

For example, research by Wrike found that 75% of highly agile organizations met their goals/business intent, 65% finished on time, and 67% finished within budget. Compared to organizations with low agility, where only 56% met their business goals, 40% finished on time, and 45% finished within budget.

One of the most popular agile methodologies used right now is Scrum, especially when it comes to software development projects. On the page linked above, you will also find Scrum certification courses for project managers looking to build their skills in this area.

The PMI is also buying into this agile trend. Their agile certification is known as PMI-ACP. You can get help earning this certification from the courses listed on our PMI-ACP certification training page.

Other Project Management Training Courses

The list of courses on this page includes every training course on the site related to project management. Some of these are related to a particular project management methodology, but others are more general. For example, some project management training courses are for non-project managers who want a better idea of how project management works so that they can support these initiatives.

Along with an experienced project manager, Wrike found that 87% of companies considered high-performing when it comes to completing projects use project management software. Some of this software does require some knowledge to use properly, so you may want to check out some project management software training courses.
