Course description
Two Topics will be covered over the three hour workshop:
1 - childhood trauma is associated with later perpetration of violence, including intimate partner violence (IPV). In this workshop, we will discuss the importance of taking a trauma-informed approach to IPV intervention for perpetrators. We will review the basic principles of trauma-informed care and explore various ways in which these components can be incorporated into intervention.
2 -working with men who batter takes a balance of reinforcing accountability and compassion. In this workshop, we will examine common tactics of power and control used in intimate partner violence. We will also discuss tools to guide men toward nonviolent change and sustain relationships based in equality.
