Course description

The North American electrical safety standards, NFPA 70E and CSA Z462, require that your electrical workers and operators be proven qualified for the tasks that they are performing. This two day, 80% hands-on course will ensure that your successful participants have the knowledge, and can demonstrate the skills, to perform their electrical operating tasks safely and properly. Instruction is based on the above standards as well as those of your facility. (NOTE: Participants must be previously certified in our high voltage arc flash safety training as a prerequisite for this training.) It encompasses both outdoor and indoor substations with the major emphasis on indoor substations and electrical rooms. The course is taught by utility safety professionals each with over 30 years of hands-on maintenance, testing and troubleshooting experience with exemplary safety records working in generating and substations..

The course is taught using Canada Training Group’s Lab Two and the client facility. Our Lab Two is a 53' highway trailer outfitted with 25kV, 15kV, 5kV and 480/600V electrical equipment with full cutaways giving complete access to the equipment during switching and racking. This lab also has simulated overhead distribution lines with fuses, cutouts, switches and grounding capability allowing participants to conduct potential tests, perform lockout/tagout, isolations, switching, phasing and apply safety grounds using hotsticks. If the client has suitable facilities then our lab will not be needed.
