Overview
Credit: 1 PDH
Length: 11 pages
RFID (radio frequency identification) modules, small self contained wireless devices used for years in retail as anti-theft devices, are increasingly being used in warehousing, shipping, and manufacturing to store vital "on-board" data about the materials they are stored/integrated with.
The most common implementations of RFID uses passive wireless communication, and thus do not require a source of onboard power to transmit the data they contain. Since they are non-contact devices, they can be made very physically robust and can be read a near infinite number of times without failure.
An overview of the basics of the technology behind RFID tags are discussed in this course, as well as the history and significant emerging standards that will effect logistics and warehousing world wide.
