Communicating Creativity: Presentation Skills for Creative Professionals
Creative professionals often struggle to sell their ideas to clients, senior managers and other stakeholders.
They may be designing products, UX/UI, brand identity, or architectural plans. The challenges of selling a creative vision are universal.
If your team can’t communicate effectively with non-creatives, they will get less interest from decision makers, more pushback and skepticism, and more disruptions to their workflow. In the worst-case scenario, they will get a smaller contract, a delayed contract, or no contract.
This training program prepares creative professionals to design and deliver persuasive presentations.
They learn how to explain inspiration, the creative process, and their design techniques in a way that makes sense for non-creatives.
Participants practice connecting their creative vision to the business goals, and help their audience understand the tangible payoff of their creative work.
Key training concepts include:
-Using objective data and evidence to justify creative decisions
-Incorporating metaphors, analogies and storytelling
-Speaking in simple, accessible terms and eliminating “design speak”
-Verbal content: Making their ideas “consumable” and memorable through concision and rhetorical techniques
-Nonverbal communication: improving body language, hand gestures, tonality and other nonverbals to convey confidence and authority
-Anchoring inspiration and creative choices in relatable concepts and common experiences
-Making the connection with business priorities clear and obvious
We watch effective and ineffective design presentations to help participants gauge the best way to communicate their creativity.
Participants are recorded on video for observation and reflection. Their presentations are transcribed and analyzed for word choice, persuasiveness, speaking speed, and other metrics.
Participants engage in multiple drills and exercises, and receive personalized feedback to improve their skills throughout the training program.
