Cogent Language provides specialized online training to individuals and consulting to organizations around the world. We are a small firm, founded in the United States as a limited liability company (LLC) under Arizona law in 2005. In 2007, we opened a branch in Japan to better support our clients in the Asia Pacific region. Soon after, we transferred our base of operations to Tokyo.
What we do
Our specialty is 21st Century project know-how. For tackling the wicked problems confronting today's organizations, we offer training in modern project management. Our emphasis is not on theory, special techniques, or test preparation, but on project competency for the real world. Our flagship program is "Team Challenge" - collaborative, task-based training in project management.
Why we do it
For organizations in every economic sector, projects create new value. However, creating new value today always involves complexity, potential conflict, and turbulence. To address such problems, project management as practiced in the 20th Century is no longer adequate. As a result, in the last decade, the practice has become more open, inclusive, and politically savvy. No longer just a set of techniques, it has become something of a global team sport, closer to playing soccer than making Gantt charts.
To be more precise, project management is now a collaborative systems practice, one by which a global community of practitioners integrates systems thinking, people skills, and cloud-based tools. Our mission at Cogent Language is sharing this practice - 21st Century project know-how.
How we do it
Most training in project management develops individual receptive skills. However, managing projects was never much like reading books, watching movies, or taking tests. Today, it is even less so. In a word, it is "social". It is building constructive relationships, typically in a dispersed team, and then working in these relationships to construct something of value to an organization. Any project management training not based on cooperation is not cogent to our global contexts. For this reason, all Cogent Language programs are collaborative, offering participants opportunities to learn and apply systems thinking, people skills, and cloud-based tools.
