Safety Trained Supervisor (STS/STSC)

The Safety Trained Supervisor (STS/STSC) credentials are professional health and safety qualifications accredited by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). STS/STSC credentials provide certification for those professionals working as first-line supervisors, managers, and any other position with health and safety responsibilities.

The STS certification

The STS certification best suits those workers in facility services, health care social assistants, administrative and support management, pest control, lawn care repair and maintenance staff. Generally, the candidates seeking this STS program work in transportation, utilities and manufacturing. The STS examination program requires a candidate to demonstrate their understanding of the principles and practices of safety within supervision. The STSC Examination

The STSC certification best suits managers, first-line construction supervisors, superintendents, foremen, crew chiefs, and craftsmen whose duties include maintaining safe conditions and practices on construction job sites. There are currently over 7,000 individuals actively holding the STSC certification.

How can you become STS or STSC certified?

Candidates for the STS or STSC certifications must meet certain educational and experiential requirements before participating in either exam. Browse the following requirements to ensure your eligibility for this BCSP-approved credential.

STSC and STS Training Requirements

All candidates for the STS/STSC exams must have completed 30 hours of formal safety and health training through either a single course or multiple training courses. Professional Experience

All candidates for the STS/STSC exams must have 2 years of experience as a supervisor or in a supervisory role and 4 years of work experience in any field to sit for the exam(s).

Retaining the STS/STSC certification

Upon successful completion and passing of the STS/STSC exam, all professionals must remain active to keep their designation. In order to remain eligible and up to date in their certification, STS/STSC professionals must pay an annual renewal fee and complete 30 hours of safety and health or STS training every 5 years.
