Anyone know if there's any guidelines available on how many hours of training an employee should expect to receive in a year? Thanks

I think it quite depends on the field you are in and what your daily tasks involve. If you are in an industry which increases and expands quickly, employees may need a lot of training to become familiarized with all of the new procedures. Some industries rarely change, and the amount of training hours may be less. However, most organizations like to train their employees with communication, leadership, and management skills to help them with their personal and professional development.

On average, most companies provide each employee with anywhere from 30-45 hours of training per year. As this is the average, it is a good guideline to keep in mind. If you are receiving far less than 30 hours of training per year, perhaps you should speak to your company about it or seek professional and personal training on your own.

If you or anyone else on this forum decides to ask for professional training, keep in mind that it's best to focus on the benefit for the company. Of course, you'll want to think of ideas to benefit yourself but you should explain the training in a way that has a relatively quick pay-off.

It depends on your profession and state. For example engineers here in Florida are required to have 18 continuing education credits every year.
