I've gotten my undergraduate degree in HR and been working for a medium-sized company doing their HR. I'm trying to convince my boss to help me with my certification/course fees but first I need to decide which track I want to start. Is SHRM or HRC the better option for HR certification? I'm looking for something that's recognized very widely as I might be moving coasts in a year or two.

How long have you been working in HR? That will make a difference in what kind of qualifications are open to you.

It's kind of soon to tell. SHRM has a significantly higher pass rate for the general certification exam - which you can look at as a good thing (you won't lose money having to retake it) or a bad thing (employers don't see it as as rigorous).

I've observed that most people are transferring their HRCI to SHRM - I mean HRCI used to be SHRM's certification arm so why wouldn't they be the next standard?
