CEU (Continuing Education Units) are similar to further education credits in the UK and Ireland. CEU is an all-encompassing term that covers a broad spectrum of post-secondary learning activities and programs. This system of counting credits is common in North America.

• Some professional courses require 10 credit hours, usually provided by qualified instructors
• Usually there are fixed hours for interaction between instructor and participants
• Participants sign for different seminars and events beforehand for registered courses and programs
• Professionals will be given a CEU certification on completion of the required credit hours
• For online events, College Board staff will review participant attendance via the online learning platform
• Certificates are awarded after the confirmation of complete attendance

Online CEU Courses

Many training institutions offer online courses and live training options designed to meet the requirements for the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), the National Certified Counselor (NCC) and the License Professional Counselor (LPC) (except Ohio). The online courses are more sensitive than traditional ones because they were designed in a such way that the credits be approved by the Center for Credentialing and Education’s Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) and Board Certified Coach (BCC). The live training options are all focused on career development topics and may meet the requirements of these certifications and others.

Who Needs CEU Courses?

Doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers to CPA, and financial advisers can register for CEU courses. These professionals are required to participate in CEU courses for a certain number of hours every year in order to keep their certificates or licenses to practice.
