Course description

The demand for CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals is expected to grow by 32% in the next decade. The 273-hour certificate program has been established to meet the need of professionals who are able to plan, assess and evaluate a client’s financial future through the development of a comprehensive financial plan. This program is registered with Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. Successful completion of our program meets the education requirement, making you eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.

Training content

The program is distributed in 7 modules divided as it follows:

  • General Principles: Designed to introduce students to the financial planning process to become a successful financial planner which include the ethics of the profession, as well as the knowledge and skills required to prepare a financial plan.
  • Insurance: Designed to acquaint students with the principles of risk management and various types of insurance including casualty, fire, health, life, auto, home, disability. 
  • Investment:  Topics include client assessment, tax considerations, economic factors, valuation methods, asset allocation techniques, portfolio performance evaluation, and more.
  • Tax Income:Emphasizes the fundamentals of individual income taxation, tax-advantaged investments, alternative minimum tax, tax traps, and more.
  • Retirement: Provides a complete overview of retirement planning including retirement savings need analysis, qualified retirement plan design, Social Security, Medicare, and more.
  • State: Covers planning and managing federal estate and gift tax planning & opportunities. The perspectives of heirs, fiduciaries, estates, trusts, beneficiaries, donors, and donees are considered.
  • Capstone: The Financial Plan Development Capstone course will integrate the material from program individual courses. Students will take this course only when they have finished all previous program courses successfully or meet CFP Board criteria for challenge status. This course will be structured as a casework course with cases that will closely reflect the types of cases students may encounter as financial planner.

Course delivery details

Each course with the exception of the Capstone, meets for four weekends.

Week 1:Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 2:Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 3:Saturday only, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Week 4:Saturday only, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

Costs

Students may register for individual courses. Each course cost $849, which includes your registration fee, textbooks, and workbooks. Course fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. 

Certification / Credits

UNF does not certify individuals to use the CFP® or CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ marks. CFP® certification is granted solely by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience and examination requirements.
