Artificial Lift Systems - ALS
This course blends lecture, hands-on exercises, and seminar teaching styles to enhance learning. Participants work with software that allows them to design and analyze artificial lift designs, which points the way to improved efficiency, higher production and less downtime due to failures. Participants learn how to design and troubleshoot rod pumping, continuous gas lift, and electric submersible pump systems.
Other methods such as PCP, plunger lift, jet pump, hydraulic pump, and intermittent gas lift are presented as viable AL techniques.

- Economic analysis includes initial and operating costs, production potential, range of bpd and depth, life considerations, etc.
- Introduction to rod-pumping, gas lift, plunger, and ESP systems
- Rod-pump design: pumping unit, rods, pump, prime movers, gas anchor, pump-off controls and methods to deepen the point of intake for horizontal or unconventional wells
- Gas lift design: mandrels, valves, injection gas requirements, temperature, chokes, spacing, equilibrium curve, continuous flow design
- special application techniques for unconventional wells are presented
- ESP design: pump performance curves, pump intake curves, typical problems, installation, troubleshooting and operation in harsh conditions and deviated wells
- Best practices for installation and maintenance for all methods of lift
