Course description
In Audio Engineering, you'll learn ...
- What is sound
- The human hearing apparatus and frequency response
- Configuration of a typical audio system
- How audio signals are recorded digitally in the modern era
Overview
Credit: 3 PDH
Length: 51 pages
For centuries the only way to hear audio information was by directly hearing the source of the sound in person. Singers, musicians, bands and orchestras played only to live audiences. This all started to change in 1877 when Thomas A. Edison used a tin foil on a rotating drum and a stylus that vibrated by sound energy and indented the foil. Although Edison’s invention was not commercially viable and he abandoned it to pursue other interests, it wasn’t long before humans figured out how to record and retransmit sound.
In this course, you’ll learn some of the basics of sound recording, manipulation, and reproduction, as well as how humans perceive sound.
