Masterclass in Innovation

When one does innovative work, they are often seeking to create new sources of customer satisfaction. This is a contrast to the operational work that is done most commonly day to day. Operational work is that that keeps an organisation going, at a higher level, operational work is a process of continual improvement that intends to maintain or improve the processes and systems that already exist. In contrast to this, innovation work attempts to create something totally new. Innovation can take an organisation into unknown territory meaning that risk is involved. There is never a guarantee that new solutions discovered will be workable or profitable.

Innovation generally only occurs in two situations, when a company is forced to look for new solutions or when they choose to. Since a crisis period is often not the best time for new ideas, the best time to innovate when the innovation cycle is entered deliberately. In this case, innovation can be better managed and controlled. In needs to be strategically organised or it is unlikely to come about since it requires different skills and processes than the usual operational work.

In six modules, this course covers a broad range of different problems and practical solutions for approaching them. Participants will learn to apply different tools and techniques to solve real life problems that they bring to the workshop.
