Insurance Foundation Certificate Examination (IFCE)

Getting to know the basics of insurance is a key requirement for those joining the industry, irrespective of the role, that is in a customer servicing role, or a claims handling role, or any other role.

Understanding the principles upon which insurance is founded, the nature of risk, the structure of the market and its various players, the key skills of underwriting and claims, how a policy is built and the main types of insurance are all vital parts of ensuring that a person, joining the insurance industry for the first time, is ready and competent to start their role.

Gaining a good understanding of the words and terms used in insurance can help to explain an industry that can be known for its difficult terms.

This highly participative 5-day programme is intended for those new to the insurance industry or undertaking a technical role for the first time. It is designed to promptly guarantee a good basic understanding of insurance and how it works in today’s fast changing insurance industry. There are three knowledge grades used throughout the course which indicate the depth of knowledge needed for each topic.

These are:

This course will be of benefit to people who are working in an insurance company, an intermediary’s office or who are managing their own claims from a non-insurance environment.

This course is designed to develop a practical working knowledge of the handling and management of claims, this course covers all insurance classes of business as indicated in the programme outline.
