Teaching Science to Children in Grades 4-6 (Online)
This course will provide you with techniques, strategies and ideas to work with grades 4-6 students in the science classroom. You will review the skills needed to learn science and how you can foster those skills. In addition, you will look at types of lessons and assessments. After the course, you will have new, fresh approaches to help teach your science students in ways that engage and motivate them.

Lesson 1: What is Science?
Develop a better understanding of what science is. Examine the nature of scientific ideas, as well as student perceptions about science.
Lesson 2: Skills Needed to Learn Science
Focus on the skills students need to succeed in science. Explore topics such as questioning, observation inquiry and more.
Lesson 3: Using stories and role-play
Begin looking at creative and innovative ways you can teach science in your classroom. This lesson will focus on the use of stories and role-play to deliver science content.
Lesson 4: Using games and computers
Learn examples of how you can use games and computers in your science classroom. Discover ways you can use these to enrich and support your instruction.
Lesson 5: Outdoor science
Move your science classroom outside. Look at how to prepare outdoor space for students and engage kids in a different setting.
Lesson 6: Assessment in the science classroom
Learn about assessment in the science classroom. Focus on several types of assessment and case studies to demonstrate their use.
