Course description

The Cardiovascular System is central to sustaining life within the body by supplying it with blood and oxygen. This course begins by teaching you how the cardiovascular system functions and in what way it can become diseased. You will study the respiratory system which is central to sustaining life within the body by supplying it with oxygen and removing carbon dioxide. You will learn how it functions and how to perform physical examinations and procedures to determine when it is deteriorating.

You will then study the function of the digestive system and learn about the signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders. You will learn how proteins, carbohydrates, and fatty acids provide fuel for the body's metabolism. You will look into the function of the central nervous system and learn about its three major subdivisions, the structure and function of the spinal cord, and the brain-stem. You will also study the different types of infectious neurological diseases such as meningitis and encephalitis.

This course covers everything a clinical nurse needs to know about the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the digestive system, and the central nervous system. Upon the completion of this course, you will have a better understanding of their anatomy and physiology, the most common diseases and disorders that affect these organs, and the care and treatment procedures that help patients recover.
