Managing Upwards

Managing upwards refers to the interaction between employees and managers in an organization. It is the responsibility of managers to communicate clearly and effectively with their direct reports. This includes offering employee job performance feedback, establishing objectives and expectations, and actively listening to employee complaints and recommendations. In contrast, it is the responsibility of workers to manage upward by listening to and carrying out the directives of their managers, as well as by demonstrating respect for the company's rules and fulfilling all deadlines. When employees and supervisors collaborate to manage upward, a positive atmosphere can be created in which all workforce members feel appreciated, respected, and supported.
