What is scaling Agile?
Agility within organizations, such as adopting agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban for product development, business optimization, or transformation, often begins at a localized level—such as within a team, department, or specific project. When successful, organizations naturally aim to scale these practices across the entire organization to maximize agility's benefits. However, this scaling process can be challenging, leading to the development of various frameworks and strategies to manage the transition.
The AgileLearn® Scaled Agile Master Certified program equips participants with the expertise needed to successfully scale Agile practices across organizations. This course is specifically designed for governance bodies and teams responsible for scaling agility or supporting its implementation.
What is the Purpose for scaling agile?
The primary goal of scaling Agile is to effectively coordinate the work of multiple teams practicing Agile methodologies to achieve the broader objectives of the organization or its major divisions. This process can involve managing dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of resources.
Agile methodologies are typically designed for small teams (e.g., 6 to 12 members) and often lack the governance structures needed for larger-scale implementation. Additionally, large organizations may employ a variety of Agile practices—such as Scrum, Kanban, or DevOps—which adds complexity to coordination and alignment.
As a result, there is a growing need for governance frameworks to manage the scaling of Agile practices across larger teams and entire organizations. Scaling Agile is a relatively new yet intricate field that incorporates multiple disciplines to address these challenges.
