More about Professional Banking Opportunities

Banking training coursesBanks are financial institutions bringing together those with capital surpluses and those with capital deficits. There are various career paths within the banking industry, including retail banking, investment banking, online banking, and more. Banking as a business prospect can be highly profitable primarily through charging interest on loans, and to a lesser extent through the collection of transaction fees or through giving financial advice and services.

Investment banking

Investment banking is a form of banking specifically catered to creating capital for businesses and corporations. Investment banks also underwrite debt and equity securities for these institutions. Some investment banks provide their services and insight toward their clients who, for instance, deal with mergers and acquisitions. Unlike retail and commercial banking, investment banks do not accept deposits. If you want to have a career in investment banking in the United States, you must be a licensed broker-dealer and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission). To learn more about investment banking or to gain experience and skills in this industry, browse our site for training courses which best suit your professional needs!

Retail banking

The term retail banking came to fruition after the passing of the Glass-Steagall Act (GSA) of 1933. This Act was a result of the 1929 stock market crash and the resulting Great Depression and officially separated investment banking from commercial banking activities.

Retail banking is a form of banking where the financial transactions are executed directly with a customer instead of through a third party, such as another bank or a financial corporation. Some of the products and services of a retail bank include mortgages, debit and credit cards, transactional accounts, saving accounts, and personal loans. When most people think of banks, retail banking institutions come to mind. These retail banks are usually located in abundance throughout a city or town and are the face of banking to the general public. Find training courses within retail banking and explore new skills or develop your existing retail banking skills!

Online banking

Often referred to as internet banking, virtual banking, or e-banking, online banking is a form of electronic payment allowing its users to conduct transactions. Typically online banking is a feature of a previously established financial institution, such as a credit union or retail bank. These institutions set up websites and various forms of electronic and mobile applications for their users, in order to efficiently and conveniently transfer money or pay bills through the service. The online banking industry has grown steadily with the increase of mobile technology. Online banking has expanded to an assortment of features that go beyond financial transactions, including the ability to check bank statements, account balances, and apply for loans and credit cards.

Though there are many positives to online banking, many threats are also posed. Because it is online, hackers often try to penetrate any vulnerabilities within the online banking systems and either deplete accounts entirely or make fraudulent transactions to their own online accounts. This surge in online banking has thus created a great need for information technology (IT) security.
